FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Gordner Announces Funding for Freeburg Borough Water Filtration PlantHARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today approved a $1.572 million loan and a $476,390 grant to fund the construction of a water filtration facility to serve Freeburg Borough residents, according to state Sen. John R. Gordner (R-27). The Freeburg Municipal Authority will use the funding to construct a water filtration plant capable of filtering 100,000 gallons per day. The filtration facility will protect the water supply for approximately 685 people in Freeburg Borough. Previous well sampling identified bacteria contamination, and exploratory wells either lacked sufficient supply or had poor water quality. "This PENNVEST award will meet both the short-term and long-term water needs for the affected families," Senator Gordner said. "Clean drinking water is essential to public health, and this facility will ensure that these households have access to safe and reliable water." PENNVEST is an independent state agency that provides financial assistance to upgrade sewer, water, storm water and drinking water projects throughout the Commonwealth.
