Alternative Fuels Funding Now Available

(HARRISBURG) – School districts, local governments and nonprofit entities are among those who may be able to cut energy costs and help reduce harmful emissions through the Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program (AFIG) in Pennsylvania, according to Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).

"The goals of AFIG are to improve air quality, reduce fossil fuel dependency and to make alternative, home-grown fuel sources as economical as possible," said Senator Gordner. "Grants are available to purchase alternative fuel vehicles, or to retro-fit current fleet vehicles that run on gasoline or diesel," said the Senator.

A total of $7 million is available from the Department of Environmental Protection for advanced fuel and vehicle technology products including biodiesel, natural gas and electricity. Funding is also available for qualified renewable fuel producers to continue to promote production of alternative fuels.

The Department is accepting applications until November 3, for projects that started after July 1 of this year. The application package and guidelines for the Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant program are available electronically at www.depweb.state.pa.us under the keyword "Alternative Fuels".
