PENNVEST Board Approves Kreamer Project

(HARRISBURG) - - The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today approved a loan of over $1.6 million to the Kreamer Municipal Authority for continuing upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant, according the Senator John R. Gordner (R-27). Combined with previous funding secured by Senator Gordner, the treatment plant will increase capacity to serve more than 800 residents as well as major manufacturers in Middlecreek Township. The entire project is expected to cost $4 million.

"Last year, we were able to assist the Authority to secure a $2.2 million dollar grant and loan package for the project, which will upgrade Kreamer's aging 1974-era facility," said the Senator. "In addition to serving Kreamer's residents, the increased capacity of the new plant will allow for future expansion of the area’s major manufacturers, such as Wood-Mode, Bingaman Lumber and Apex Homes."

When completed, the project will increase the Kreamer plant's treatment capacity from 90,000 gallons to 165,000 gallons per day. Additionally, the current plant has occasionally discharged inadequately treated sewage, which will be eliminated upon completion of the project.

Kreamer's manufacturers currently employ over 2,300 workers and renovation of the wastewater treatment facility is expected to allow these manufacturers to expand and create additional jobs under favorable market conditions.
