Senate Passes Firefighter and Emergency Services Grant Program

(HARRISBURG) - -  The Senate of Pennsylvania has passed legislation to further implement the successful Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, according to Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).

"The legislation we passed today authorizes a supplemental budget appropriation of $25 million for this important grant program that our local volunteer emergency responders use to update equipment, modernize their fire halls and provide training for fire and ambulance crews," said Senator Gordner.

Grants to fire companies may range from $2,500 to $15,000, while volunteer ambulance grants range from $2,500 to $10,000 under the program administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

"Our volunteer fire fighters and ambulance crews serve their communities, and often sacrifice important family and personal commitments to do so.  I appreciate their efforts and I'm pleased to be able to support our volunteers through this legislation," Senator Gordner said.

The legislation now moves to the House of Representatives.
