Senator Gordner Says State Financing will Assist Two
Housing Projects
(HARRISBURG) - - The Columbia County Housing Corporation will proceed
with two important housing projects as a result of financing approved by
the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, according to State Senator John
R. Gordner (R-27).
"Expansion of the successful Scott Elderly housing development to meet
with demand is one project, while the second project, Central Court
Apartments, involves affordable housing for victims of domestic
violence," said Sen. Gordner. "Both projects serve existing needs in
Columbia County."
The Housing Finance Agency approved nearly $1.5 million in financing and
tax credits for the Scott Elderly Project and over $118,000 in tax
credits for the Central Court Apartments Project.
The Housing Corporation’s second phase of the Scott Elderly development
on Tenny Street in Scott Township will result in 21 single story
cottages to complement the existing 24 unit complex developed by the
Corporation in 2001. The development will include a community room,
laundry room and other services to enhance senior living. Supportive
services will be provided by the Columbia Montour Home Health Services/VNA
and will include standard health care and home health care support.
In collaboration with the Women's Center, Inc, and the Columbia Montour
Home Health System, the Housing Corporation will develop a blighted area
of Scott Township along Central Road to provide affordable housing for
victims of domestic violence. The Central Court Apartments will consist
of eight units of special needs housing to accommodate a variety of
family sizes. Residents of Central Court Apartments will be required to
be actively enrolled in either the Columbia Montour Home Health Center's
or the Women's Center programs that work with families in crisis that
help lead to self-sufficiency.
"Without Senator Gordner's assistance it would have been difficult for
us to proceed with these important and needed projects," said Rich
Kisner, CCHC Deputy Director of Development. "His support was
instrumental."
"Affordable housing with appropriate support services for senior
citizens and for victims of domestic violence is desperately needed in
our area and the Housing Corporation, along with its community service
partners, has done great work to provide for these needs," Senator
Gordner said.
